Wow, the last course was fire! So, let’s first catch our breath… And then, let’s do it all over again!

It’s a new month of classes and with that comes a new choreography. For anyone looking for a fun and challenging way to learn more while exercising and working on your presentation, this is for you.

As part of our training, we find that it’s useful to put together technique and styling in sequences we can practice to build muscle memory and explore what works and feels good in our body.  One way to do this is through choreography - something with more structure where you can set a goal and practice, and perform it!

For our next 4 week online cycle, District Zouk is offering a new choreography course with Alisson Sandi where the goal is to have you learn and practice different zouk flavors. He will use inspiration from several of the most prominent styles of Brazilian zouk dance and music to make you dance, sweat, have lots of fun, and also learn from a diverse and creative choreography.

WHAT KIND OF CHOREO IS THIS?

This is an innovative project that Alisson Sandi has created to challenge the community to expand your knowledge and challenge your bodies to do something new. Think outside of the box, do something you haven’t done before, and you’ll find you can dance like you have never danced before!

The choreo will be divided into multiple parts. Each part will represent a distinct style that matches with the vibe and flow of the song. And with that, the choreography will change to explore each ‘style dialect’ and challenge our bodies to learn a new language.

By the time we get to our 3rd week, we will have the full choreo and will spend the 4th week cleaning up and making sure that we are smashing it!

IS THIS A SOLO OR A PARTNER COURSE? FOR LEADERS OR FOLLOWERS?

This is strictly a solo class, focused on challenging your body, brain and expression. No gender or role, simply zouking your way through different ‘zoukable’ music styles.

WHY SHOULD I JOIN?

These classes will be an opportunity to get up, just dance, and get the body moving. If you feel sometimes that you don’t have the energy or motivation to actually do an online class where some amount of thinking is required, this is also an opportunity to switch off the brain and focus on your eyes and body. The repetition will get you going and we guarantee that by the end you will be feeling better and motivated.

This course will also provide the challenge of learning a choreography and the sense of accomplishment that comes after, plus potentially some options to perform it.

This learning group will provide you with regular times to dance and have fun together, additional opportunities to practice, and a community to share virtual sweat and tears of joy.

This is also a way you can support our instructors - some of whom teach dance as their full-time occupation - and they can support you during this time.

DOES IT HAVE PREREQUISITES?

To take better advantage of this course, students should know the Basics in Solo Dancing, and it would be very helpful if you already know some Brazilian Zouk, but it is not mandatory, as long as you are ready for the task.

The intention of this course is to provide a challenge, and as such, we will be building on what you already know and exploring it to the maximum.
